If you were under the impression that the upcoming solar eclipse–which will be visible across the United States in August 21–is a good thing, evangelist Anne Graham Lotz (daughter of Billy Graham) is now warning that it could signal the beginning of some bad things for this country.
Lotz, who in the past has issued warnings about the U.S. being punished for the “sins of the nation,” is again trying to preach her own brand of fire and brimstone which she even claims is based on Biblical evidence:
“The warning is triggered by the total solar eclipse of Aug. 21, nicknamed America’s Eclipse. For the first time in almost 100 years, a total solar eclipse will be seen from coast to coast in our nation. People are preparing to mark this significant event with viewing parties at exclusive prime sites. The celebratory nature regarding the eclipse brings to my mind the Babylonian King Belshazzar who threw a drunken feast the night the Medes and Persians crept under the city gate.”
Then Lotz goes on to issue a vague statement which allows her plenty of wiggle room when God doesn’t do as she’s predicted:
“Therefore, my perspective on the upcoming phenomenon is not celebratory. While no one can know for sure if judgment is coming on America, it does seem that God is signaling us about something. Time will tell what that something is.”
Yeah, God is signaling us that there’s a solar eclipse and we should behold the marvels of the planets and space! Where in the world did she get judgment out of that?
Also, it should be noted that the last “American eclipse” which was visible across the entire contiguous United States was in 1918. Why weren’t we destroyed/judged then?
Rest assured the real reason Ruth Lotz is trying to frighten her fellow Christians is for a couple of very selfish reasons: To raise money and draw attention to herself. And something tells me God is not the least bit pleased by that.
