Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has given a stern warning to President Donald Trump not to even think about make an attempt to fire Robert Mueller. In fact, doing so could cost Trump the presidency.
Crossing Lines Left And Right
Trump would be crossing a serious “red line” if he were to order the firing of the lead investigator appointed to probe his connection with potential Russian sabotage of the 2016 elections, said Sen. Graham who once served as a House impeachment manager during former President Bill Clinton’s term.
Graham told reporters on Capitol Hill that he has plans to introduce legislation that would stop Trump’s plan to oust Mueller.
This bill, which he believes would gain the support of both Democrats and Republicans, would serve to:
“Mandate that any special counsel established to investigate either a president or his staff can’t be fired ‘unless you have judicial review of the firing.'”
Sen. Graham is working on the bill with Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and another group of lawmakers.
Trump Can’t Take The Heat
Trump has been unable to conceal his discontentment towards Mueller’s ongoing probe into his connection with the Russians and the intrusion into the 2016 elections, as well as the people involved in the investigation.
Recently, Trump has taken to humiliating Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in the hopes that he can make Sessions step down. He at one point said he regrets appointing Sessions, and that he wouldn’t have had he known Sessions would ‘betray‘ him.
Sen. Graham confirmed that Trump attack on Sessions is displeasing to the Senate and the rest of the world, and he urged Trump to use his power as a president to fire Sessions if he thinks he deserves to be fired and take responsibility for his action.
Trump has also been weighing the possibility of firing Mueller believing that will save him from being probed.
Trump seems to be doing everything in his power to wriggle himself out the Russian probe, but it won’t work. Every move he makes, every word out of his mouth just makes him look even more guilty.
