Former Speaker of the House and full-time jerk Newt Gingrich went on The View Tuesday to promote his new book, but he got a lot more than he bargained from when the topic turned to current events.
It began when Gingrich said President Trump had been fully exonerated by the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey last week. The Russiagate investigation, Gingrich asserted, should be ended immediately.
That led co-host Whoopi Goldberg to inquire of Gingrich:
“If you believe that, why was it so hard to accept that he didn’t find whatever everybody thought there was going to be on Mrs. Clinton?”
In his typically snide way, Gingrich replied:
“Well, I think actually he found more than enough on Mrs. Clinton which is why she’s still Mrs. Clinton.”
Goldberg was having none of it, and called Gingrich out, telling him:
“Now you know that was doublespeak at its best. What did you just say?”
Incredibly, Gingrich admitted that Comey cost Hillary Clinton the election by reopening an investigation into emails found on a computer used by former Congressman Anthony Weiner.
Later, co-host Sunny Hostin told the former speaker that Trump believes Comey vindicated him, he must have believed all of his testimony, adding:
“Comey also said that the president was a liar. And he also said that the president asked him for his loyalty and asked him to let go of the [retired Gen. Michael] Flynn investigation. How is that a victory?”
Gingrich then tried to say Comey was nothing more than a “disgruntled” man who lost his job.
But perhaps the best line of the day came from Joy Behar, who had this to say about the man-child currently in the Oval Office:
“Wouldn’t you say though, Newt, that he’s a little on the needy side? He has to have all of this constant adoration going on.”
Donald Trump, needy? If you doubt that, just take a look at the cabinet meeting he held Monday where everyone was required to say what a great man he is. That was freaking scary!
