It’s safe to say that the only person who lies more than President Trump is one of his senior advisers, Kellyanne “Alternative Facts” Conway. That’s probably why Trump sends her out to spin for him on cable news.
Over the past few months, Conway has regaled us with these well-known falsehoods:
- The Bowling Green Massacre.
- The firing of James Comey is “not a coverup.”
- Donald Trump’s first 100 days “reshaped America.”
That’s just three of the at least two million lies Conway has told since she joined the administration. If you count the ones she told when she was campaign manager, the number must be well above 10 million. It’s an impressive resume of falsehoods.
Conway was on Fox & Friends Friday morning whining about how political rhetoric in America had reached a dangerous point. This from the woman who works for a president who once said he hoped some of his supporters would “knock the crap out of” anyone protesting at one of his rallies. Conway mournfully declared:
“I went back and looked at exactly what was being discussed on all the TV shows, except yours, at 7:09 a.m. on Wednesday, when this happened, and it’s a really curious exercise, because as Steve Scalise was fighting for his life and crawling into right field in a trail of blood, you should go back and see what people were saying about the president and Republicans at that very moment. Of course, they had to break in with the news of this tragedy, and since then there’s been some introspection — some quieter, more muted voices toning down the rhetoric.”
And then, for perhaps the first time in her adult life, Conway finally told the God’s honest truth about something:
“But look at Twitter. If I was shot and killed tomorrow, half of Twitter would explode in applause and excitement — this is the world we live in now.”
What she neglected to say is that she and Donald Trump helped create that world, fed it with vitriol and hatred, nurtured it with alt-right neo-Nazi rhetoric, and laughed as they fanned the flames of division they gladly used to propel Trump to the White House. Wanna see the guilty party, Kellyanne? Go look in a damn mirror.
