CNN contributor April Ryan claims there has been a mass hysteria in the White House over the rumor that President Donald Trump might fire Robert Muller in an attempt at derailing the Russia investigation.
Muller is the special counsel in charge of investigating alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, appointed by Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein to oversee the Russia investigation. It is a thing of concern that Muller cannot be objective given that he has been in a longtime friendship with fired FBI Director James Comey and many of his staffers are Democrats.
Chris Buddy, the Newsmax CEO, who has been a close confidant of Trump told PBS News Hour that the President is:
“Weighing perhaps terminating the special counsel” following former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony last week before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Ryan told Erin Burnett:
“One of my sources reached out to me just before we went on air and they said there’s mass hysteria in the West Wing about this.”
She went on to say that if Trump fires Muller:
“It shows that he’s [Trump] impeding the process yet again.”
When Ryan was asked if she knew exactly how the President would do this, she said she did not know but:
“There’s a lot of smoke and there’s a lot of alarm bells going off … The question is, where’s the fire?”
If Trump decides to fire Muller, it would be a “big problem for him politically.”
Trump has so far fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, and FBI Director James Comey, among others, just to stop the process of the Russia investigation.
Things are not likely going to work out as well as planned by the President, as firing Comey has led to Muller’s appointment as special counsel.
The people are watching to see how Trump will handle his dilemma, or if he will allow the special counsel to carve him up for his Russia crimes, or if he fires Muller and faces the consequences, which would at this point definitely backfire.
