On Tuesday, House Republicans introduced a new GOP health bill amendment in their never ending pursuit to destroy (or at least severely cripple) Obamacare.
One of the new changes that drew the ire of House Democrats was a provision which would allow states to apply for special waivers to exempt themselves from particular Obamacare mandates.
For example, Texas could apply for an exemption from the rule barring insurance companies from charging higher premiums to people with pre-existing conditions. They can also get exemptions from requiring insurance companies to cover services like mental health and prescription drugs.
But perhaps most alarming is the provision that protects members of Congress and their staffs from losing their Obamacare protections no matter what their state decides to do.
Democrats were quick to raise hell over this glaring act of hypocrisy:
“The best evidence yet that the new GOP repeal plan is a disaster for people’s health care is that the GOP exempted members of Congress from living under it,” said Leslie Dach, director of the Protect Our Care Campaign, one of the main groups fighting repeal.
The GOP Health Bill gives Americans a lollypop and then tells them to go fuck themselves (just before taking back said lollypop).
