It’s official, people. The Senate has confirmed Betsy DeVos to be our next Secretary of Education. Vice President Mike Pence broke the tie with his vote. I thought he might want women in the house, but I guess not.
DeVos did horribly at her hearing. She couldn’t answer many simple questions about education and schools. She also wants to get rid of public schools and give vouchers to private schools. To top it all off, she also wants to shoehorn religion into schools as well.
Republican strategist Ana Navarro put it best when she said:
“You’re going to tell me Betsy DeVos, whose hearing felt like she was dropped on her head when she was a baby, has got the best understanding of education in the United States of America?”
This woman never attended a public school. Her children never went to any public schools. She is a billionaire and not even slightly qualified for this role. She has given $5.3 million to political campaigns over the last five years. She is entitled to a salary of $205,700 per year, and she has decided not to take that.
