Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song,” or “Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire” as we know it better got a makeover so fuckin’ good it has become an instant classic.
I can just picture it now, cleaning up after Christmas, my headphones on, dancing around the house humming to Fiona Apple’s kickass rendition of that holiday favorite. Maybe even bake some cookies and sit next to the sparkling tree while having a sing-along with the family.
The video, first appearing on a Tumblr page, has become very popular across the web. Apple starts the song out with:
“Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire. You cry ‘creepy uncle’ every time he arrives.”
Of course, no song would be complete without touching on those core issues American’s are facing, and Apple does just that. She talks about race, poverty, President-elect Donald Trump’s Scrooge like wealth, and even those special working people. Apple belts out:
“Everybody knows some money and entitlement/Can help to make the season white. Mothers of color with their kids out of sight/Will find it hard to sleep at night.”
Apple dramatically ends the video by ripping up a picture of Trump and wishing him a very sarcastic “Merry Christmas.”
This song is most definitely going on the most listened to playlist in my iPod, and I am pretty sure the local caroling this year might be a little spicier with some Trump nuts and spiked eggnog.
I wonder if she could make one for Melania? Maybe, “I Saw Mommy Fucking Santa Claus.”
