For decades, Republicans have dreamed about cutting and privatizing Medicare. They talk about the untold millions that could be saved and no doubt spent on new bombs to slaughter innocent civilians and other assorted “collateral damage” as they refer to non-combatants.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has been quite open in his wishes of changing Medicare to a voucher-based program which might save Washington and insurance companies lots of money, but cost as much as $6,000 a year extra per person currently on Medicare.
But Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has a message for the penny-pinching GOP that would make granny pay more for the medicine she needs to stay alive:
“The Republicans’ ideological and visceral hatred of government could deny millions of senior citizens across the country the care they need and deserve. To our Republican colleagues considering this path, Democrats say, ‘Make our day.’ Your effort will fail, and this attack on our seniors will not stand.”
Do you see what Senator Schumer just did so brilliantly there? He laid down the gauntlet and also got all Dirty Harry on the Republicans. He used well-known Republican fan Clint Eastwood to punk out the GOP. Genius!
So here’s fair warning to Paul and the greedy GOP: If you want to start a war you’re certain to lose, choose to go after senior citizens and see how quickly you get your asses handed to you.
