Let’s face it, most journalists today don’t have the guts to call out powerful politicians who spin lies and nonsense on TV. But every once in a while someone comes along and reeks havoc on a lying bastard’s well-rehearsed narrative. Such an occurrence took place when Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) made the mistake of trying to rewrite history concerning the 2013 government shutdown, in which he lead the charge in orchestrating by insisting that President Obama put the Affordable Care Act on the chopping block during the budget debates.
After Cruz spewed his bullshit, MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt threw it right back in his punchable face. Here’s a transcript of the exchange:
Cruz: I have consistently opposed shutdowns. In 2013 I said we shouldn’t shut the government down. I went to the floor asking unanimous consent to reopen the government.
Hunt: Sir, you stood in the way of that.
Cruz: That’s factually incorrect.
Hunt: It’s not, though.
Cruz: It’s a wonderful media narrative. Only one thing actually cause as shutdown. When you have senators, who vote to deny cloture on a funding bill. And when that bill comes up, you have a vote. A yes means fund the government. A no means don’t fund the government. In 2013 virtually every single Republican voted to fund the government, including me multiple times, and virtually every — in fact, every single Democrat, I believe, in 2013, voted to shut the government down. The same thing is true here. Virtually every single Republican voted this week to fund the government. Virtually every single Democrat voted to shut it down.
Hunt: Sir, that’s simply not the case. This was about Obamacare funding.
Cruz: Those facts are incorrect.
Hunt: You insisted at that time —
Cruz: I get that you want to debate me,
but you don't have any facts.
Despite Cruz’s “alternative facts,” here’s a video featuring a simple explanation as to how the 2013 government shutdown came to fruition.
Oh yeah, and here’s a video of a Republican lawmaker in 2013 squarely placing most of the blame for the shutdown on Cruz.
The bottom line is that Ted Cruz is a lying piece of shit who should scare the shit out of anyone who didn’t vote for Donald Trump. This guy is greasy, disingenuous, and if it were not for Trump, he might be president right now. He’s still young enough to run many more times, and Texas isn’t getting any saner, so don’t expect him to be out of office anytime soon. Scumbags like Cruz is why voting blue in every election matters.
