With each passing day, the Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare seems less likely. Even though Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says publicly that he hasn’t given up on letting the full Senate vote on Trumpcare, many GOP Senators have made it quite clear they aren’t willing to risk their political future by supporting such a disastrous bill.
Despite that, former House Speaker and lifelong adulterer Newt Gingrich appeared on Fox News Sunday and declared that the massive cuts to Medicaid in the GOP healthcare bill are a good thing.
“That is one of the big concerns, that President Obama and the Democrats expanded Medicaid, covered people that weren’t previously covered, millions of people got it under there,. While it is true that it doesn’t cut Medicaid, it slows the rate of growth of Medicaid, some people who now have coverage eventually would lose coverage. And in states that didn’t expand Medicaid, there’s a tremendous concern that they’re going to be stuck in an inferior position.”
The heartless Gingrich attempted to place blame for Medicaid expansion on state governors:
“First of all, I’m underwhelmed by governors who love free money. You have a lot of governors who say, ‘oh, we want more of this money.’ 90 percent of the cost being picked up by the feds for the expanded part of Medicaid, which, by the way, actually discriminates against, for example, Americans with disabilities because they only get 62 percent of federal funding. And some states have actually re-rigged the game to get more able-bodied adults.”
So if an “able-bodied” person doesn’t have health insurance and cannot afford healthcare, that’s just too damn bad, Newt?
The perpetually cynical former Speaker then added:
“Medicaid has expanded dramatically into zones it was never designed for. I think the American people would support reforms that had work requirements attached to people who were able-bodied adults.”
Hey, if Republicans are so damn opposed to Medicaid, here’s an idea: Single-payer Medicare for all. Then everyone can have insurance; not just rich asshole former politicians who would sell the coins off the eyes of their dead relatives to make a damn buck.
