Mike Pence will be the official host for the annual Cinco de Mayo party at the White House. And no, that isn’t a joke.
A reception will be held in the Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is next door to the White House, on Thursday, the day before the holiday.
What isn’t clear is whether or not well-known hater of Mexicans Donald Trump will drop by to drop a few choice insults on the guests.
Many in the Hispanic community weren’t even sure a reception would take place this year. Some invitees said they had not heard of any event until a few weeks ago.
While the reception hosted by Pence is a surprise, it’s also a step down from the way both Presidents Obama and George W. Bush celebrated the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France during the French-Mexican War. Under their administrations, the reception was held in the East Room of the White House.
No doubt Trump didn’t want the party held in the actual White House for fear some “rapists” or “drug dealers” might sneak in.
