As usual, President Donald Trump is again the highlight of our late night comedic journey. Today’s topic is Trump’s ill-timed shock-firing of James Comey from his position as FBI Director.
Jimmy Kimmel gave a summary in his opening monologue on this hot topic:
“Trump fired James Comey for making him president,”
We all know about the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email during the final days of the U.S. election in 2016. Democrats believe that Comey’s release of a letter re-opening the defunct investigation was what paved the way for Trump’s victory.
When he was fired, Comey had just asked for more money to fund the investigation into a potential collusion between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign, which ultimately helped sway the election to Trump’s favor more.
To this, Kimmel said:
“We’ve seen a lot of unusual stuff. But this is outrageous.”
Outrageous is an a gross understatement, but hits the issue right on the head.
Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah also had another great response for Trump’s actions.
Well, technically it was a question but… oooohhh…:
“If [Comey’s] gone, who’s going to investigate Russia’s ties to… Ohhh…”

Noah called it Trump’s “masterstroke” adding:
“This is insane. Trump is basically saying he’s doing this because of what Comey did to Hillary.”
Meanwhile, on The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert was also shocked by the news which came out while he was recording Tuesday’s show. He joked:
“We’ll have more on this [on Wednesday] when they scramble to cover the whole thing up.”
Colbert noted that Trump’s letter firing Comey still managed to make it all about him. In the letter, Trump wrote that he appreciated Comey:
“Informing me, on three separate occasions, I am not under investigation.”
You’re Fired… Or Not
The best answer so far and my favorite of all is The Late Late Show host James Corden’s response which I will save for last.
While talking about it, Corden nervously laughed as he said,
“Remember two years ago when we all made jokes about if Trump ever became president he’d be like, ‘You’re fired. You’re fired. You’re fired.’ They were good times.”
“I’m worried this puts Trump in a real bind—he doesn’t have enough kids to fill the vacancy.”
And the best yet..
“Comey’s being fired because Donald Trump is crazy,”
…And I’ll just leave it at that.
