In January, during the confirmation hearings of now Attorney General Jeff Sessions, several protesters were arrested for disrupting the proceedings.
The protesters were associated with the anti-war group Code Pink. One of the protesters, a woman named Desiree A. Fairooz, was recently found guilty of disorderly conduct and demonstrating on Capitol Grounds, according to the New York Times.
Meanwhile, two other protesters from her group were also convicted of two separate charges associated with parading or demonstrating on Capitol Grounds.
Here’s the video of Fairooz being escorted out after she laughed during the hearings.

According to Fairooz, she once again laughed upon learning of her conviction and indicated that her attorney was in the process of filing post-trail motions seeking to set aside the court’s verdict.
She said, “I’m so disgusted with so many different aspects of our current government.” She also said she’ll keep protesting.
Following her conviction, social media exploded in outrage over the injustice of watching a protester face jail time for laughing at a public official.

Folks: Stop laughing at Jeff Sessions, or you're going to jail.
— emptywheel (@emptywheel) May 3, 2017
@emptywheel Yes, that
Clearly it's a more serious offense than perjury.

@emptywheel We're gonna need a bigger prison system.

But this was by far the best observation.

Should Fairooz go to jail, this may mark the first time in U.S. history that a protester went to jail for mocking a public official. Oh, and what was so funny during the hearing that made Fairooz laugh in the first place?
It was a Republican senator saying that Jeff Sessions’ track record of “treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented.”
This is just another disturbing example of how Donald Trump’s administration is trying to destroy our constitutional rights and freedoms. The subhuman beings who work for this sick fuck of a “president” only care about obtaining money and power.
Well, it’s a good thing she didn’t vomit as well, or else they may have charged her with bioterrorism on top of laughing.
