After Donald Trump had fired now-former FBI Director James Comey for reasons related to Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email server investigation, many inside the bureau fell as though their former boss was railroaded for doing his job and thoroughly investigating Russia’s connection to Trump’s campaign.
NBC News reports that Trump cancelled a visit to FBI headquarters out of fear that he may not be received with a red carpet, flower girls, and exotic fruits.
And while many FBI agents told NBC that a lot of agents in the bureau voted for Trump in 2016, those same sources added that not many agents are happy with Trump right now.
“My sense is most FBI employees feel a loyalty to Comey,” one person who works at the bureau said, and right now “Trump would not be well-received at headquarters.”
But not to worry, Deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CBS on Thursday morning:
“I believe it’s very likely that that takes place sometime in the next few days.”
Huckabee also reiterated her claim that most of the FBI “rank and file” lost faith in Comey and were pleased when Trump fired him.
“I’ve heard from countless members of the FBI that are grateful and thankful for the president’s decision,” Sanders said at the White House briefing on Thursday.
Sarah Huckabee: One, two, three, oh it’s countless! Let’s go home.
And just for fun, on Thursday Trump just said fuck it. He abandoned his administration’s original “carefully crafted” bullshit explanation behind Comey’s firing, which claimed that it was Deputy U.S. Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s memo to the president which promoted his decision.
During an interview, Trump shocked NBC’s Lestor Holt when he casually admitted:
Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey.
In other words, yeah my mind was made up before I asked for a bullshit excuse, so what?
Trump’s “gives no fucks” attitude may have just proved to be his undoing. And a chilly reception from a room full of FBI agents should be the least of his concerns.
But then again we’re talking about Donald Trump.
