You may recall that Donald Trump has said on more than one occasion he would have won the popular vote against Hillary Clinton (he lost by 3 million ballots) if only it hadn’t been for those 3-5 million people who voted illegally. He has no proof of this absurd claim, but as with all things Trump, facts are not required for him to fire off some line of horseshit that doesn’t have an ounce of truth to it.
Now, however, in what may wind up being one of the most ironic things to occur in decades, we learn that President Steve Bannon is currently under investigation for committing voter fraud in Florida.
I’ll give you a moment to catch you breath after all the hysterical laughing that just overtook you.
Sure enough, the Washington Post reports that Evil Steve that Florida election authorities are closely looking into a matter of Bannon voting while registered at an address he didn’t actually live at. And Bannon may have used this phony address to avoid paying taxes in California, which would also mean he engaged in tax evasion and might be subject to penalties in the Golden State.
The Post noted:
“Prosecutors in Miami have an active investigation into Bannon’s assertions that he was a Florida resident and qualified to vote in the state from 2014 to 2016. In late August, investigators subpoenaed Bannon’s lease of a Coconut Grove home and other documents.”
While proving voter fraud due to residency is problematic in Florida because “state laws do not clearly define residency,” if investigators can determine Bannon was lying when he voted from the Sunshine State, he could face some serious consequences:
“Under Florida law, it is a third-degree felony to provide false information on a voter registration application. It is punishable by up to five years in prison. First-time offenders are rarely given more than probation, something that could also lead to the loss of a security clearance.”
Sounds like Donald Trump needs to be investigating the scumbags in his administration and quit making up shit that is easily proven false. He won’t, of course, but this latest charge against Bannon helps reinforce what we already knew: Steve Bannon is a person of no morals and questionable methods.
