Last week, the long dreaded Republican alternative to Obamacare was released. It is just as bad as we thought it would be. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that it will kick over 24 million people off of their health insurance by 2024.
This bill is so bad that Republicans in the Senate are proposing alternative bills. Congressional Democrats are against the repeal of Obamacare, and the Senate GOP members are opposed to this particular replacement bill.
The Republicans in the Senate think that this particular bill is a “repackaging of Obamacare.”
Utah Senator Mike Lee said:
“Let’s fulfill our Obamacare repeal promise immediately and then take our time and do reform right. Let’s pass the 2015 repeal bill that Republicans in both houses of Congress voted for and sent to the White House just 15 months ago.”
They are pushing these Health Savings Accounts that just don’t work. It is only useful if you have extra money. They allow you to take some money and put it in an account before the taxes are taken out. It’s basically an expensive piggy bank.
The Senate GOP plan is a bipartisan compromise that keeps a lot of the measures that were in the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It would give the states the option of continuing under Obamacare or taking the alternative. The Obamacare is not perfect, but it is better than the plan that President Donald Trump and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan have come up with.
