Red States Think ‘Winning’ Means Screwing Employees

Residents in Johnson, Linn, Polk, and Wapello Counties in Iowa are seeing their raises yanked away from them this week.

Wapello County was going to raise its minimum wage to $10.10 an hour in 2019. Linn was set to go to $10.25, and Polk county was going $10.75. Welp, now they are getting stuck at the Federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

This is a hard freeze, too. The local governments will not be able to increase the minimum wage with this new law that was passed.

Not only are they reversing these minimum wage hikes, but they are plotting to take away sick leave for workers.

Georgia, Illinois, and Minnesota are also considering freezing the minimum wage at the Federal level. Several states including Georgia and Pennsylvania are considering banning sick leave as well.

Minnesota is one of the states yanking away sick leave. They are claiming that they want to have standard labor laws in every city in the state. One representative, Rep. Rena Moran, DFL-St. Paul, said:

“With a flip of a moment, we are trying to take away the power of local government. This is really shameful. I can’t believe this is coming from your party — that you are trying to take away local control from communities.”

Hey Republicans, how is that “winning” treating you?
