It finally happened. Republicans have been wanting to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for years. They released their replacement plan this week, and it is just plain awful.
Even some Republicans don’t like this BS. The plan, the American Health Care Act (AHCA), completely guts the ACA. Pre-existing condition restrictions are back in a different form. The tax subsidies are replaced with age-based tax credits.
Republicans who oppose the bill have several problems with it. Some don’t like the fact that the Medicaid expansion stays in place until 2020. They want states to have full control over Medicaid.
Some are saying that there is no difference between the age-based tax credits and the current tax subsidies. Yes, there is. The income range for these age-based credits is huge! People who make $20,000 get the same credit as someone making $70,000. It’s fucking insane!
People with lower incomes are not going to be able to afford insurance! People with pre-existing conditions are screwed again because they can be charged penalties if they don’t have coverage. This is the shit that they’ve been trying to do for eight years?! This is it? Hey, Paul Ryan, this bill needs to go back to the drawing board.
The Republicans just want to get rid of everything that Obama did.
