Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been on a rampage since Trump gave the green light to savagely rip people from their children and families. Now, it seems, they don’t have a conscious at all.
On the 10th floor of a Texas courthouse, just moments after a Ervin Gonzalez was granted a protective order from her partner, who had been physically abusing her, ICE officers detained and arrested her. Even more tragic, the women’s abuser, already in custody, is suspected to be the person who gave the tip to ICE to begin with.
Gonzalez had been staying at the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence. El Paso County attornies are fearful that this intrusion will lead to victims staying with their abusers out of fear of being taken from their families.
Though ICE stated they arrested the women on the street, El Paso County Attorney Joanne Bernal said that there were at least six agents on the 10th floor. Bernal stated:
Our clients come to us at the lowest point in their lives. Many of them are so frightened of coming to us because of possible immigration concerns.
The lack of compassion for a person that has just undergone some of the most terrifying and horrific moments of their life, because they are looked at by their papers and not the fact that they are human, is absolutely disgusting.
On top of it all, to be punished for fleeing for your life, by the very person you are running from, and have it backed by the government, is just another example of how the Trump regime has waltzed right into dangerous territories.
If the president can give a group of people this type of power, how long will it be until we are all at risk due to the color of our skin, our gender, or simply for not agreeing with the dictator in charge?
Well, not that it should matter but Mrs. Gonzalez is also transgender. Think about it.
Resist. Persist. Be careful out there.
