Dear President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and the Religious Right:
You have been trying for decades to oppress people who are different than you are in the name of your “religious freedom.” Welp, take a moment and read the Constitution like Khizr Khan told you to.
The First Amendment prohibits the establishment of religion. That includes your religion. Our country was founded on religious freedom. Thomas Jefferson first used the term “separation of church and state” in a letter to the Danbury Baptists. He said:
“I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.”
Now, the Religious Right has gained control of the president and Congress. The President is nominating a Supreme Court Justice who will help push Republican ideas.
Trump is working on a YUGE executive order to strip away rights from the LGBT community, women, religious minorities, and more. You are already allowed to have your religion. You are not allowed to use your beliefs to discriminate against people who are different from you.
Women deserve access to birth control, even if you don’t like it. LGBT people have the same right to adopt children that you do.
This scary executive order would also allow them to use their religion to discriminate against other people.
I am a woman. I am an atheist. I love my LGBT friends. I am not afraid of you, Republicans! I will fight for my rights, and I will fight for all human rights. Contact the White House, and tell them to stop this fuckery.
We are a secular nation, and you need to stop this hateful executive order from being passed.
