I like Katy Perry’s music, but she has disappointed me today. I heard that she made this remark when being interviewed on the red carpet for the Grammys.

She was talking about the color of her hair. She said she’s tried every shade, so now she’s blonde. She joked about shaving her head when she has a “public meltdown.”

Perry was loosely referring to the problems that Britney Spears experienced when she had mental health issues back in 2007. She went to the psychiatric ward on a hold. To this day, she has been deemed unfit to handle her own affairs. Her father and lawyer handle everything for her.
This is NOT something to kid about. Mental illnesses are painful and scary to deal with. Even a one-time episode can be frightening and traumatic.

Think before you make fun of someone’s chronic illness, Katy. That was just plain ignorant.
