President Donald Trump is appointing someone to the Federal Communications Commission who wants to end net neutrality.
As USA Today reported:
“Net neutrality, or open Internet, is the principle that Internet service providers (ISPs) should give consumers access to all legal content and applications on an equal basis, without favoring some sources or blocking others.”
It may not seem like a big deal, but it could be the beginning of Trump censoring the internet. If net neutrality ends, the Trump administration could make liberal sites or anything Trump doesn’t like cost more to access. Your favorite websites would be rendered too slow to use.
It could split the flow of the internet. They call it “fast lanes” and “slow lanes.” Companies could pay to have their sites run faster. Small, startup businesses that can’t afford this could be stuck in slow lanes. Their sites could be too slow for customers to go to.
This administration is headed down a slippery slope. If he censors the internet, print news and television could be next. We can’t let Trump become “Big Brother.”
