Our President Donald Trump is already screwing with our freedoms. He lied about his crowds at the Inauguration, and he has put a social media gag on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He is already trying to censor the media.
For those of you who have read the infamous book 1984 by George Orwell, this will sound very familiar to you. The book follows a futuristic society that is controlled by a dictator. The “Party” censors what the people hear. The main character, Winston, works at the party and he helps delete information that is no longer considered “true.” The government decides which nation they are at war with, what the people read, what the people know, and more.
Sales of the book have gone up since Trump’s presidency began. Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s senior advisor, made a ridiculous remark on television this weekend. She said that the administration was using “alternative facts” instead of outright lying.
This is right out of 1984. The government in the book controls the way people speak. There are words that people can’t use. They basically keep people from becoming too educated.
Many people have been tweeting quotes from the book, and it is back on the Best Seller list.
"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
