Amy Schumer is being considered for a live-action “Barbie” movie. The movie isn’t set to come out until 2018, but some Twitter users are already body shaming her.
@amyschumer Barbie?? Better lose a lot of weight for that role!

Some people were tweeting good things about the casting decision:
God I hope this is true because Amy has a real woman's body!! https://t.co/mSnAMGGtOO

I spend ages defending Barbie against causing unrealistic body image issues&the internet has to be horrible about Amy Schumer playing her. 😤

Many people feel that the original Barbie doll gives girls a false sense of body image. The doll has a figure that is impossible for a real woman to achieve. Many little girls out there wish for a Barbie body. Some end up with eating disorders. We should portray Barbie as a real woman, and this movie is a great place to start with that.
In the movie, Schumer will be going:
“…On an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is a belief in oneself, free of trying to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection.”
This is a beautiful idea for a story. I’ll be happy to see it completed. Let’s give little girls a good role-model.
